BTL Intern Plus Program

Hands-on STEM: From Theory to Real World Impact

If you are curious, driven, and passionate about using STEM to create meaningful change, this internship pathway is designed for you.

Bridging the Gap: From Theory to Real-World Impact

You’ve spent years mastering the formulas, the theories, and the diagrams. But we know that for a true innovator, the classroom is only the starting point. You’re looking for the place where your code actually moves a machine, where your data model predicts a harvest, and where your engineering skills solve a challenge in your own community.

Welcome to the BTL Intern Plus Program. We don't do "coffee runs" or "filing." We do deployment.

Why Intern With Us?

Africa is currently the world’s most exciting frontier for STEM. While the rest of the world iterates on existing systems, we are building new ones from the ground up. Our internship is designed for students who want to be at the center of that building process.

  • Hands-On from Day One: You won’t be watching from the sidelines. You’ll be integrated into active projects—from renewable energy grids to localized AI solutions—working with tools and hardware that bring your degree to life.

  • Contextual Innovation: We believe the best solutions for Africa come from those who understand its unique landscape. You’ll learn how to adapt global tech standards to local realities, ensuring your work has a lasting footprint.

  • Mentorship, Not Management: You’ll work alongside seasoned engineers and researchers who are as invested in your growth as they are in the project's success.

Who Are We Looking For?

We aren't just looking for the highest GPA. We are looking for the "Builders."

  1. The Curious: Those who ask "why" and then stay up late to find out "how."

  2. The Problem-Solvers: Students who see a broken system not as a frustration, but as a blueprint for a better version.

  3. The Community-Minded: Individuals who want their technical expertise to serve a purpose beyond the screen or the lab bench.

Your Career Starts Here

An internship here isn't just a line on your CV; it’s a launchpad. You’ll leave with a portfolio of real-world contributions and a network of peers who are redefining the African tech landscape.

"Theory is the map, but the internship is the journey. Come help us navigate the future of African STEM."

Ready to Build?

How to Apply: Submit your CV and a one-page "Problem-Solver" Statement to intern@baselinetechlab.com Instead of a standard cover letter, tell us about one specific problem in your community and a STEM-based idea you have to solve it.

"Don't just wait for the future. Come to the lab and build it."

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

We know you’re looking for more than just a typical internship. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most from ambitious students like you.

What kind of projects will I actually work on?

You won’t be stuck in a corner doing data entry. Our interns are embedded into core teams working on active, high-impact projects—think designing low-cost IoT sensors for local agriculture, optimizing renewable energy micro-grids, or developing AI models tailored to African languages and datasets.

While we value academic excellence, we value curiosity and grit even more. We look at your projects, your GitHub (if applicable), your problem-solving approach, and your passion for using STEM to uplift your community. A high GPA is great, but a "builder’s mindset" is mandatory.

Because our focus is on hands-on training, most of our roles are on-site at our Innovation Hubs. We believe the best learning happens when you’re physically collaborating with mentors and tinkering with hardware. However, we do offer hybrid options for specific software-heavy roles.

Absolutely. You’ll be paired with a Lead Engineer or Researcher who will provide weekly 1-on-1 feedback. Our goal is to ensure that by the time you leave, you’ve gained skills that are 12–18 months ahead of your peers.

Application Requirements

We are looking for the next generation of African STEM leaders. To be considered for our next cohort, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Current Status: Enrollment in a Post-Secondary or University program (3rd year and above preferred) or a recent graduate (within 12 months) in a STEM-related field.

  • Technical Curiosity: A demonstrated interest in your field beyond the classroom—show us a project you built, a club you led, or a problem you tried to solve on your own.

  • Commitment: Ability to commit to a minimum of 3 to 6 months to ensure you see a project from conception to a tangible milestone.

  • Communication: The ability to explain complex technical ideas simply and collaborate effectively within a diverse team.

  • The "X-Factor": A clear vision of how you want to use your skills to impact the African continent.
